We in no way intended to visit Nha Trang. We heard it was a touristy beach side town and that was adequate to turn us away. But sadly there was a mandatory stopever in Nah Trang when traveling amongst Dalat and Hoi An.

We decided to make the most of it, hiring a area for the day so we shop our bags whilst we explored the town. It also meant we could rest/shower prior to the extended bus ride north to Hoi An.

Of all the locations we visited in Vietnam, we stayed in Nah Trang for the briefest time. But this was adequate for it to be crowned the reduced-point of our complete trip.

We heard about some ice cream spot that was meant to be good and on the map it looked like a walkable distance. We did not factor in the tropical heat and by the time we got there we had been each very tired. To top rated it off, the ice cream wasn’t even that good.

We decided to attempt and hail a cab back given that it was nonetheless hot and we were each tired. Finding into the cab, the 1st point I asked was no matter whether he could use the meter. I thought I was smart getting him to use the meter. The meter itself was sealed inside a clear plastic box with no less than four ‘seals’ around it.

My estimate was that the ride was no more than six-7 minutes back down the road, but I ended having to pay something like AUD30! This is probably a week’s salary for many men and women in Vietnam! I believed it was a bit odd that there were so numerous zeros on the meter, but I believed there were some decimal points on the back!
Not one particular for confrontations, I just paid the metered cost and just believed to myself that possibly that was the going rate in this tourist hub. It was not till later that I did the conversion that I realized that it couldn’t have possibly price that significantly. Hence began my really bad impression of Nah Trang.

Moral of the story is to stay away from taking taxis unless of course you know how much it would roughly price! As per my knowledge, even although they may well use the meter, it indicates nothing at all as they can nevertheless rip you off. Particularly never trust those with excessive seals or religious trinkets in the taxi!

We then made the decision to go to the beach and discover somewhere to loosen up to kill off another few hours. We located a decent searching hotel with a beach side bar and purchased some drinks which we took to 1 of the numerous empty beach umbrellas. To our shock, we had been asked to spend added to use the beach recliners even though we were paying consumers! Nah Trang, bad taste #two…time to get the hell out of right here…
